Mk 15:21a ... And passing by from the countryside, they compell a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus ...

Book Announcement

The centurian orders his soldiers to find three men to raise up a cross.

Mk 15:21b ... so that he might "raise up" his cross.

Book Announcement

The Greek verb airo means to "take up or raise." This wording falsely suggests that Simon carried the cross all the way to Golgotha. The real reason seems geometric - to raise a cross, the size of which will be confirmed in a later verse by gematria.

Mk 15:20 < Verses > 15:22
