1:19 And this is the Testimony of John when the Jews out of Jerusalem sent Priests and Levites to him so that they might ask him ... Who are you?
1:20 And he confessed and did not deny. And he confessed that ... I am not The Christ.
1:21 And they asked him ... What then? Are you Elias? ...
And he says ... I am not.
Are you The Prophet? ... And he answered ... No.
1:22 Then they said to him ... Who are you?
So that we may give an answer to the ones having sent us.
What do you say about yourself?
1:23 He said ... I am a voice crying in the wilderness.
Make straight the way of the Lord ... as said Isaiah the Prophet.
1:24 And the ones having been sent were of the Pharisees.
1:25 And they asked him, and said to him ... Why then do you baptize ...
if you are not the Christ ...
  nor Elias ...
  nor the Prophet?
1:26 The John answered them saying ... I baptize in water.
Among you has stood one whom you do not recognize ...
1:27 the One coming after me ...
of whom I am not worthy ...
that I should untie the thong of his sandal.
1:28 These things happened in Bethany beyond the Jordan where John was baptizing.
