| 6:14 |
And
king Herod "heard" because his "name"
became "well known." |
|
and
they were saying that John ... |
| |
the
one baptizing ... |
| |
has
been raised out of the dead ones ... |
|
and
for this reason ... "abilities" are at work in him.
|
| 6:15 |
Others
yet were saying that ... He is Elias. |
|
others
yet were saying that ... A prophet, like one of the prophets! |
| 6:16 |
And
having heard ... |
| |
Herod
was saying ... John, whom I beheaded,
this one was raised. |
| 6:17 |
For
Herod sends off, holds John ... |
| |
and
he binds him in a "watch guard" ... |
|
through
Herodias, the wife of Philip his brother ... |
| |
because
he married her. |
| 6:18 |
For
John was saying to Herod ... It is not
permissible for you to have the wife of your brother. |
| 6:19 |
And
Herodias bore a grudge against him ... |
| |
and
she desired to kill him ... |
| |
and
she could not. |
| 6:20 |
For
Herod feared John, knowing him to be a "just and holy"
man ... |
| |
and he guarded him ... |
| |
and hearing of him ... |
| |
he was much in doubt ... |
| |
and he gladly heard of him . |
| 6:21 |
And
coming about a good-timed day, when on Herod's birthday ...
|
|
he makes
a dinner for his "great ones," and "cohort
commanders," and to the "foremost" of Galilee.
|
| 6:22 |
And
coming in, his daughter of Herodias ... |
|
and
dancing, she pleases Herod and "the ones lying back together"
... |
|
the
king said to the maiden ... Ask me whatever
you wish and I shall be giving to you. |
| 6:23 |
And
he "greatly swears" to her ... Whatever
you ask me I will be giving to you ... |
| |
up
to "half of my kingdom." |
| 6:24 |
And
having gone out she said to her mother ... What
should I ask for? |
|
and
she said ... The "head
of John the baptist." |
| 6:25 |
And
having entered "immediately with haste" to the king
... |
|
she
made her request saying ... I
desire that at once you give me "the head of John the
Baptist upon a platter." |
| 6:26 |
And
the king, becoming enclosed in grief ... |
| |
through
the oaths and the ones lying up ... |
| |
he wills
to not set her aside. |
| 6:27 |
And
immediately the king sends off a bodyguard, willing upon him
to carry the head. |
| 6:28 |
And
coming from, he beheads him in the "watching guard."
|
| |
And
he carries his head on a "platter" ... |
| |
and
he gives it to the maiden ... |
|
and
the maiden gives it to her mother. |
| 6:29 |
And
hearing, his disciples came ... |
| |
and
they raised his corpse ... |
| |
and
they placed it in a "memorial vault." |
